First Day of A New Venture

This blog is a public journal of recovery from the disease of Alcoholism.  Regular posts will update the process.   My last drink was over 2.5 years ago and despite some momentary cravings and occasional drinking dreams I am free of the desire to drink.  My recovery now is about managing the thinking problem.  At some periods lots of effort goes into the recovery, and at other times laziness takes over.  I am well but not nearly as well as I could be, and ask all in recovery to encourage me and one another to keep at it, do the work, spread the word, and stay sober one day at a time.

For me, a hallmark of wellness means that I am grateful for all things and take nothing whatsoever for granted.  My ideal sense of gratitude is summed up in the following quote from G. K. Chesterton.  Reading it, I am inspired to bring to mind a sense of gratitude for everything.

“When we were children we were grateful to those who filled our stockings at Christmas time.  Why are we not grateful to God for filling our stockings with legs?”
